Fishing On The Spey

T

The River Spey is a jewel amongst some of Scotlands finest salmon rivers, not only for sport but also for its picturesque scenery and its famous Whisky distilleries. Anglers come from all over the world to fish here, many wanting to visit the home of the famous ‘Spey cast’.

The Spey was low but I had a super time for two days. If you like fly fishing, I cant recommend them enough.

From its source high up at Loch Spey the river descends 1,000ft to its mouth at Spey Bay, some 107 miles, the most productive fishing is known as Strathspey from Grantown on Spey to Spey Bay.

This descent leads to a good flow all season, which makes fly fishing very exciting and gives high expectations on every cast.

The sport starts in early March and runs strong until September.
